From the South
Wellington to Hastings, Hawke’s Bay

There are two routes you can take.
Option 1
The Coast road – State Highway 1 towards Levin. Just before you reach Levin take Highway 57 towards Woodville (by-passing Palmerston North) where you will join S.H.2 continuing through Dannevirke, Waipukerau and Waipawa.
About 10 kms before Hastings you will pass Firth Limeworks on your left. Just 1 km on from this point is a left turn for SH 50A/Napier. Turn left here and drive for approx. 3½ kms until you reach a bend in the road and a left turn onto Mangaroa Rd. Turn here and drive to the end of the road where you will come out opposite the Bridge Pa Aerodrome. A quick left, then immediately right turn will take you into Ngatarawa Rd. Drive to the end of this road, about 5 kms, take a left turn and just 1 km on the left hand side you will see the sign for ASH RIDGE WINES and CARDONESS LODGE
If you miss the turn for Mangaroa Rd don’t despair, just continue on the road (Pakipaki Rd) until you reach the first roundabout signposted BRIDGE PA (SH50) and WINERIES towards your left. Turn left here into Maraekakaho Road then take the second turn on your right (after the Golf Club) also noting the winery sign showing ASH RIDGE WINES this is NGATARAWA ROAD. Continue for 5 kilometres to the end of the road then turn left and drive for exactly 1 kilometre until you see the sign on your left for ASH RIDGE WINES and CARDONESS LODGE.
Option 2
As an Alternative route. From Woodville carry on through Dannevirke and Norsewood then near Takapau take S.H.50 through Ashcott, Ongaonga and Maraekakaho. Once past Maraekakaho the road forks to the left – direction Fernhill. We are approximately 4 kms along this stretch on the right hand side, with the sign for Cardoness Lodge. The house is well set back from the road down a gravel drive.
From the North
Directions from Auckland to Cardoness Lodge, Hawkes Bay

Time 5.5 hours
Following SH1 you will pass through Cambridge, Tirau and Taupo. Just South of Taupo turn left onto SH5 in the direction of Napier.
At the end of SH5 you will turn right at the T junction with SH2 in the direction of Napier. As you approach Napier you will pass the Hawke’s Bay Airport on your right. At this point, keeping on the highway, drive for approximately 20 kilometres (15 minutes) and follow the signs for HASTINGS and then WELLINGTON. This is a new section of the Highway and you will eventually come to a brown sign saying “WINERIES” and a roundabout with the directions showing Bridge Pa to the right – follow this sign. Drive towards Bridge Pa then take the second turn on your right onto NGATARAWA ROAD also following the winery sign for ASH RIDGE WINES which is our Cellar Door. At the end of Ngatarawa Road you will meet up with the old State Highway 50. At this point turn left and drive for exactly 1 kilometre until you see the sign for ASH RIDGE WINES and CARDONESS LODGE.Lodge on your left.
