Winter to most people is a picture of cold and gloom but we are experiencing some beautiful balmy days with cold nights – just right to enjoy a glass of wine in front of a real log fire. The closest we come to snow is looking across to the Ruahini Mountains in the distance and seeing the snow glistening on the top. It’s quite magical.

The vineyard is dormant although there is still work to be done but the lambs are doing a great job in keeping the grass down between the vines. We have closed the Cellar Door for the winter, re-opening in September, however wine is still available. Hawkes Bay may have quietened down for now but it is beautiful walking weather and the scenery is spectacular.

The Mission have announced the date for the 2012 Concert which is to be held on Saturday 25th February. This is a special anniversary for the Concert so expect to hear that there will be a top artist for this.

The Rugby World Cup will soon be on us and we all look forward to this event.

Hawkes Bay Handmade Crafts Market

February 26th at Asher Hall corner of Tennyson anmd Dalton Streets Napier. This market is held on the last Saturday of each month for hawkes Bay artists and crafts persons to showcase and sell their work. This is an opportunity to meet local people, enjoy a coffee or tea, listen to live entertainment and entry is free

A wonderful museum of historical technology to be found in Napier. Try out some of the wonders of yesteryear and listen to the history of the machines on display told by volunteers who are well acquainted with the workings of all the items on display.

Arataki Honey

Just outside Havelock North on the foothills of Te Mata Peak is the delightful Arataki Honey Visitor Centre. Here is an interactive experience into the world of the honey bee where you can learn about the bees, the honey they make and how important honey bees are to land-based industries and the environment.

Its a fun place to visit with plenty of activities for all the family, including:

look at the honey bees under microscopes
smell the various scents of honey/wax/propolis
feel the warmth they generate all by themselves to keep themselves and their young comfortable and healthy
enter their Giant Bee Hive and watch the worker bees take care of their Queen & the Drones up close.

Discover a wide selection of honey – with over ten delicious flavours to taste - and honey related products. Discover the amazing qualities of beeswax, smell the beautiful candles, and sample the extensive range of health and beauty products, including propolis, pollen and royal jelly.
